Our Animals

Royal Pythons are the smallest species of python found in Africa. In general Royal Pythons are dark earthy colours which help them to camouflage in the wild, however they have been bred in captivity to give them various different patterns and colouration. In the wild Royal Pythons tend to live for around 20 years, but they have been known to live up to 40 years in captivity. Rupert our Royal Python here at Zoo 4 You is around 3.5ft long. He eats small mammals that are roughly the same size as the thickest part of his body. He has very distinct beautiful markings on his body and is called a “pinstripe” morph. Rupert our Royal Python has a calm and placid nature, this is why they are one of the most common species of snake to have as pets. Royal Pythons are not a threatening species of snake, in fact they are the opposite, when faced with a threat they curl into a ball! Which is why they are commonly called Ball Pythons.

*Royal Pythons are notoriously known through the Egyptian myth that Cleopatra wore these snakes on her wrists as bracelets.

Rupert is our Pinstripe Royal Python, he is great for all types of events. He is especially great for school talks studying Africa.
