Our Animals

Hognose snakes are one of the smaller species of snake. They are called Hognose snakes because of their unique upturned nose similar to that of a pig. They use their nose to help them dig through the dirt to find prey such as toads. Hognoses have a mild venom that they can use to perpetrate their prey. These snakes mimic the signs of more vicious snakes in order to appear more scary then they actually are. When threatened they hiss and puff out their hooded neck to make themselves look like a cobra!

*Hognoses have the ability to convincingly play dead when threatened and when all else has failed. They flip onto their back with their mouth a jar with their tongue hanging out!
